This is one of the more fun events I have checked out in recent memory. My friend Scott is an avid Roseanne fan, and we just heard that Ms. Laurie Metcalf is in a play called Voice Lessons at the Zephyr Theatre in Hollywood. Also starring in the play is French Stewart from 3rd Rock From The Sun, which is one of my favorite shows. So with Erica, and her sister Linda in tow, we decide to truck down to Melrose to see if we can get some photo ops and an autograph or two.
8:55 p.m. – We just finished having dinner at Johnny Rockets. Chili fries, and a grilled chicken sandwich do not sit well with each other. This is just an FYI.
8:59 p.m. – We just found the theatre. It is really dark, and it looks like it is closed for the evening. We heard that this play only runs about an hour or so we made sure to arrive early.
9:03 p.m. – Erica and I decide to check around back to see if we can find out anything or just to see if we can hear anything. It is oddly quiet. I have deemed Erica the theatre expert since we were able to get Alicia Silverstone last month.
9:06 p.m. – We convinced Scott to call the telephone number to see if the play was cancelled tonight. According to the voicemail it was sold out! Very strange.
9:09 p.m. – Scott just talked to someone at the theatre and it should be letting out any time. Well at least we know now that it's still going on!
9:15 p.m. – Oh, the doors are opening and people are filing out. No sign of Laurie or French Stewart yet, but we do spy Daran Norris who played Cliff on Veronica Mars. I love random celebrity sightings! And yes Scott, I did have to look up his name!
9:18 p.m. – French Stewart just came out. Linda asked him to sign her 3rd Rock script. Well, to be fair it's my 3rd Rock script, well, to be fairer it is a special script only given out to people who worked at NBC when the show ended. It's really cool actually. I got him to sign and personalize my other 3rd Rock script that I already had John Lithgow sign. French was super cool, and I also got a pic as well.
9:22 p.m. – Scott swears he can hear Aunt Jackie, I mean Laurie Metcalf laughing in the crowd.
9:26 p.m. – Laurie is standing in a group talking with a bunch of people. Scott is starting to get nervous.
9:34 p.m. – And there she is. Scott asked her to sign his DVD which she was more than happy to do. She is very sweet and very personable. Scott also got a pic with her as well. I asked her to sign my Desperate Housewives poster. She played Carolyn who got shot in the head and held the grocery store hostage. Linda also got her on her Desperate Housewives pic and got her to sign another DVD cover for Scott.
Such a fun night, and both stars were so approachable. If you have a chance, check out Voice Lessons at the Zephyr Theatre on Melrose Ave.
