It’s the 20th anniversary of the Motor City Comic Con, and what better way to celebrate than with more than a million comics and collectibles for sale or for trade? The event is one of the biggest gatherings of the year for comic book lovers and star watchers.
“Besides hundreds of dealers from around the country selling vintage comic books to modern books, toys, statues, gaming supplies, movie memorabilia, T-shirts and posters, we’ll have several other things going on, including a viewing of ‘Star Trek: Phase II,’ ” a planned television series that was set to air in early 1978, says Jeffrey Serling, convention coordinator.
Many comic book writers and artists will be at the event, plus celebrities including pro wrestler Mick Foley, who will show off his new TNA heavyweight championship belt. “Star Wars” fans can rub elbows with Stormtroopers from Vader’s Fist 501st Legion, and Princess Leia herself, Carrie Fisher, will pose for photos for $50 at 5 p.m. Saturday. The photo session is limited to 300 people — autograph not included.
Also expected: Bruce Davison, Julie Newmar, Michael Hogan, Aaron Douglas, Doug Jones, John Alexander, Kevin Nash, Tracy Brooks, Joyce DeWitt, Priscilla Barnes, John Schneider and Catherine Bach.
12:30-7 p.m. Friday, 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Rock Financial Showplace, 46100 Grand River, Novi. 248-426-8059 or www.motorcityconventions.com.
