Autographed Baby Grand Will Be Raffled May 23rd

The max worth of the raffle tickets: $37,500. The value of the baby grand at the Renaissance Theatre: $14,000. The piano and the 20-plus stars’ autographs inside the instrument? “Priceless.”

So says the theatre’s Director of Development Shelly Mauk.

“You’ll never have an instrument signed by all these people ever again. It’s a one-of-a-kind collector’s item,” she said.

Proceeds from the fund-raiser, called “Celebrating the Eighty-Eighth” in reference to the piano’s 88 keys, will go into the Renaissance Theatre’s general fund.

The black Yamaha piano in the theater’s lobby was signed by nearly every major performer who has visited the theater since September.

Stars such as Jim Brickman, Koko Taylor, Colin Mochrie, Brad Sherwood, Rubin Studdard and Jodi Benson, the voice of “The Little Mermaid,” have all signed, with one special gold signature to the left of the music stand.

Mauk said the signature of Jerry Lee Lewis, American rock ‘n’ roll and country music singer, songwriter and pianist, is the only signature adorning the outside of the piano.

“We will draw the winning ticket May 23 at the Davy Jones concert,” Mauk said, noting that the former lead singer of The Monkees also will sign the piano. “You do not have to be present to win.”

Only 1,500 raffle tickets — $25 each or two for $44 — will be sold.

“Originally they were $50 or two for $88, but we decided to do a stimulus price break,” she said. “So if someone already purchased them, an equal number of tickets have been placed in the drawing for them, doubling their chances of winning.”

For details or to purchase tickets, call the Mauk at 419-522-2726 ext. 203.
